Horticulture

Assam’s agro-climatic conditions favor the growth of a variety of fruits and vegetables like coconut, banana, pineapple, orange, etc. Until recently, horticulture was practiced as a non-commercial activity. With adequate infrastructure, resources support, and better know-how, this sector has tremendous potential for growth in the coming years. Opportunities exist in sourcing organically produced fruits and vegetables and value addition in the chain like processing, extraction, and packaging.

Besides it deals with Bee keeping, Food processing, Micro irrigation and post-harvest management including Cold-chain development

The Horticultural Growth rate in Assam contributes in large towards overall of growth of Agriculture in the state. During 2014-15 the Growth rate of Horticulture in the state is increased to 7.6 % over 6.6 % in 2013-14.
